Nearly 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, producing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.
Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage
Homeowners reported large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Utility workers were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the widespread outages.
Southern State's Storm Challenges
Simultaneously, nearly 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.
State Emergency Services received 598 emergency reports across the state, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and inundation.

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k energy customers in the state were without power.

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
Tomorrow was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity predicted across various areas of both states.

Health officials cautioned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.
This alert comes after past events where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
